Debate

This three-week course concerns the current and significant issues on sustainable development. The sustainable development appears as the only rational idea of the civilization development, the idea that comprehensively brings together ecological, economic and social orderliness. Only such a holistic approach stands a good chance of achieving lasting results and solving the problems that are encountered by the contemporary civilization at all levels: from local to worldwide or global level.

This subject matter is especially topical in Poland which is now at the stage of numerous structural and economic transformations, in the course of both building up its position and image in the world and seeking for its own idea of development, also in the face of accessing the European Union.

AlwerniaThe course 'Challenges of Sustainable Development' attracts attention not only by offering interesting and up-to-date issues but also by providing excellent teaching staff which are comprised of instructors from the University of Florida , the Sendzimir Foundation and specialists from Poland . Besides providing very high standard, they pass on the knowledge in an unusually interesting and interactive way. The course programme - apart from the lectures, seminars and discussion - includes two projects, done outside the lecture hall, concerning the practical possibilities for introducing the principles of sustainable development into a borough and a company.

Some of the issues brought up during the course include:

Each participant will receive a certificate of the course completion which is signed by the University of Florida . During the course and after it they will have access both to the library that constantly collects material on sustainable development and to the website specially designed for exchanging information on the subject. The only condition to get certificate is to attend all lectures during the course.

The participants bear a cost of 500 zl which covers participation in the lectures, seminars, exercises, field trips and full accommodations. They also receive a substantial complete set of the course material. But certainly, the real costs surpass considerably the value of that nominal fee that is paid by the participants; hence the majority of the expenses are covered by the Sendzimir Foundation.

Additionally, to ensure chances of participation for less wealthy people the Foundation Board have set ten scholarships which will make it possible for ten people to participate in the course free of charge. It should be emphasise that applying for the course and getting the scholarschip are two different processes. Applying for the scholarschip does not reduce the chance to be qualified for the course. We encourage to apply for the scholarship, especially when you are very interested in taking part in the course, but you don't apply for the finantial reasons.

A very good command of English is a prerequisite for the course, taking into account the fact that most of the lectures and activities are in English.

Reference letters and certyficates confirming the knowledge of english will be an asset. Those who are applying for the scholarships are asked to submit an additional request along with the proper documents.

All the documents must be written in English.
