About the course

An essential element of the project is the three-week Summer Academy, 'Challenges of Sustainable Development'. The course has been organized every year since 1998. This year we will run a XV edition between 8th and 28th of July 2012 in Kartuzy, Pomerania Region.

Over 350 people attended previous editions of the course. Most of them were students and PhD students from universities from all over Poland and abroad. Among the participants were also a number of researchers as well as representatives of industry and administration. Students were recruited from different areas and specialties, especially they were: the protection and environmental engineering, architecture, management, economic sciences, agriculture, biology, ecology, arts, history, journalism. Since 2009 the course has an international dimension, and its participants are recruited from European countries (Central and Eastern Europe and Balitic Region countries).
The course includes: lectures, debates, workshops, simulation games, field trips and practical projects, on several issues of sustainable development. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students carry out two major practical projects which attempt to implement the principles of sustainable development into concrete practices of companies and institutions in the first project, and the municipalities and cities in the second one.
