Course - Edition 2010

The next, 13th edition of the course 'Challenges of Sustainable Development in Poland' will take
place from 4th till 24th July 2010 in the PAN's Conference Centre in Mogilany (near Krakow).
An international, interdisciplinary group of students, NGO's activists and researchers from
CEE and Baltic Sea Basin countries, will participate in the course.

E-LEARNING INTRODUCTORY PHASE
This year for the first time, we will start the course with an e-learning phase through the
www.challengeSD.eu community portal, from 15th of May to the 15th of June 2010. The goal of this stage of the course will be:
-    to provide all of the participants with basic knowledge in different fields related to SD to have an equal start for participants with diverse backgrounds;
-    preparation and development of practical projects (studying the reports from previous years, preparation of the tools for performing interviews with the local community in Zawoja, pre-analyses of the SD Communications of the companies taking part in the business project;
-    getting to know each other in the project teams.
We plan to invite to this e-learning phase all the accepted applicants and 15 additional participants from the reserve list.

RECRUITMENT

Deadlines
Applications to participate in the summer school 2010 must be submitted until 30 of April 2010. The selection results will be announced till the 10th of May 2010.

Capacity/countries
We have 16 places for participants from Poland, and 11 places for participants from countries of the Baltic Sea Basin, and Central and Eastern Europe (we will accept up to 3 people from one country, depending on the number of applications from a given country). We also consider other candidatures; however candidates from above mentioned countries will have the priority in the selection process.

Fee
The course is free of charge. It includes: participation in all course activities, training materials, transport from Krakow to Mogilany and back, trips during the course connected with the practical projects, full board, accommodation in shared rooms in the conference center.
We cannot cover nor reimburse your travel expenses.

Application documents
Candidates are required to submit a CV and covering letter (both documents in English) which corresponds to the following questions:
•    why do you want to attend a course?
•    what projects related to sustainable development are you planning to do in the future?
•    do you see yourself as part of the network of people working for sustainable development? Please explain why?
•    what actions would you like to take within it in the near future?
•    do you like working in a group?
•    how will you use the knowledge acquired during the course?

Selection criteria:
•    Covering letter quality;
•    Education background, course of study;
•    Professional experience, citizenship activity;
•    Career interests;
•    Knowledge of English in speaking and writing;

Additional information
All participants are required to participate in the entire course, it is not possible to skip any part of the course.
